Baden-Baden is an oasis of peace and relaxation. Particularly enjoyable walks include the English Park and the Botanical Gardens with ponds and a fountain. The path along the river Oos and the Lichtentaler Allee are also beautiful.

The Caracalla Thermal Baths offer saunas, Jacuzzis, indoor and outdoor pools with thermal spa water, as already enjoyed by the Romans. The Friedrichsbad thermal spa also offers an exquisite, pampering experience.

The culinary offerings of Baden-Baden and surroundings show a definite French influence, but also plenty of delicious local specialities such as 'Maultaeschle', and a wide variety of international cuisine are available to suit every budget.

The programme of cultural events in Baden-Baden is also extensive. Concerts, ballets, musicals, operas, etc. are performed by top international artists at the Festspielhaus all year round. The Philharmonie and the Theatre further offer high quality events. The open air concerts taking place in summer in front of the Kurhaus are popular. Baden-Baden's casino is the oldest in Germany and an attraction for many, worth a visit for its ornate Neo-Baroque building alone.

Twice a year international standard horse races take place in Iffezheim. Other local attractions include the Neues Schloss (new castle), the Altes Schloss (old castle), the staatliche Kunsthalle and the Museum Frieder Burda, the Brahmshaus, the synagogue, the Russische Kirche, and others.

The village of Ebersteinburg lies in the hills above Baden-Baden, approx. 4km from the centre. Burg Alteberstein with its cosy restaurant and café, is particularly attractive. Its tower offers a fantastic 360 degree view. There are plenty of things to do in the black forest region. Hikers may want to explore the nearby mountain Merkur, Gernsbach or the Hornisgrinde. Climbers may conquer the Battert-Felsen, vine connoisseurs will head to Neuweier. France is also very close. We also recommend a visit to Rastatt where there is a daily market and to the Baroque style Schloss Favorite on the way.

Sporting activities close by include fishing, balloon rides, golf, climbing, horse riding, gliding and tennis.
